WELL Building Standard Overview
The WELL Building Standard takes a holistic approach to health in the built environment addressing behavior, operations and design.
WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
WELL is grounded in a body of medical research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend more than 90 percent of our time, and the health and wellness impacts on us as occupants. WELL Certified™ spaces can help create a built environment that improves the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep patterns and performance of its occupants.
The Seven Concepts of the WELL Building Standard

Keystone WELL membership
Creating spaces that are healthy for people, as well as the environment, is our priority, especially in the COVID-19 era. We’re helping to move the industry forward on healthy building design through collaborations such as our Keystone membership with the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), a health-focused design certification program. Together with the IWBI network, we are working to advance health, safety and wellness in the built environment.

WELL HSR
AWI has earned the WELL Health-Safety Rating for the Avenue, Living Lab and Building 5 Complex through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating focusing on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans to address a post-COVID-19 environment now and into the future.
Designed to empower owners to take the necessary steps in order to prioritize the health and safety of their staff, visitors and stakeholders, the WELL Health-Safety Rating helps guide users in preparing their spaces for re-entry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, instilling confidence in those who come through the building as well as the broader community.
In order to achieve WELL Health-Safety Rating, we have made updates to our policies and protocols on critical health and safety issues that touch you - including Cleaning, Emergency Preparedness, Healthy Benefits, Stakeholder Engagement and Innovation highlights. The third-party review process ensures integrity and consistency, and results in a WELL Health-Safety seal, communicating leadership and a commitment to the health and well-being of the people who frequent the space.
The WELL Health-Safety Rating seal is a recognizable mark of our commitment to health for anyone who walks through the doors of our facility.
