Microperforations enable sound absorption up to 0.70 NRC without infill panels

LANCASTER, Pa. — WOODWORKS MicroPerforated ceiling panels from Armstrong World Industries combine the beauty of natural wood with “barely there” perforations that improve acoustic performance without compromising the visual aesthetic.

Paired with acoustic fleece that is factory-applied to the back of the panels, the tiny perforations, which are barely visible when installed at standard heights, enable up to 0.70 NRC without the need for infill panels. With the addition of optional infill panels, an NRC of up to 0.85 can be achieved.

Available in 12 Standard Veneer Finishes
Previously available as a custom option, WOODWORKS MicroPerforated panels are now available as standard in 12 veneer finishes, which feature various species and veneer cuts for beautiful wood visuals. Standard finishes include Plain Slice White Maple, Plain Slice White Ash, Plain Slice White Oak, Plain Slice Cherry, and Plain Slice Walnut; Quartered Mahogany, Quartered Sapele, and Quartered Walnut; Vertical Grain Fir, and Rift White Oak. Two available legacy veneers are Constants™ Vertical Grain Walnut and Redux Wood Wheat.

The panels are also available in FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood as a premium quoted option.

Acoustics Without Compromise
“When we considered how to best meet the growing demand for standard wood ceilings that provide enhanced acoustical performance, Armstong prioritized improving acoustics without compromising the natural beauty of wood,” said Richard Murlin, Director, Architectural Wood Systems, at Armstrong. “This is where the 0.50 mm perforations come into play. They offer excellent noise control and practically disappear.”

WOODWORKS MicroPerforated ceiling panels are available with both Tegular and Vector edges. The Tegular edge panels can achieve total noise control and design flexibility when backed with TOTAL ACOUSTICS panels that offer both sound absorption (NRC) and sound blocking (CAC). The Tegular edge panels are available in 24 x 24", 12 x 48", 12 x 72", 24 x 48", and 24 x 72" panel sizes. The Vector edge panels provide safe and secure downward accessibility without tools and their narrow 1/4" reveal offers a monolithic visual with a nearly invisible suspension system. The Vector edge panels are available in 24 x 24", 12 x 48", and 24 x 48" panel sizes.

Additional Advantages
WOODWORKS MicroPerforated ceiling panels have an ASTM E84 Class A Fire Performance rating and are made from 100% USDA Biobased Content. They are made in the U.S.A. of domestic and global content and are Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act compliant.

The natural warmth of the wood panels can contribute to biophilic designs and building certification standards like the WELL v2 “Nature and Place” feature.
